We all have an inner guidance system, are you tuning into yours?

Unfortunately, it’s a well kept secret that humans have their own inner guidance system to assist them in making the best decisions on their life path. This may be a familiar concept to some people but for those of you that it’s not, I will explain.
This of course is my understanding, so take what resonates and leave what doesn’t.
What is the inner guidance system?
The inner guidance system is your higher self communicating with you.
Your higher self is an aspect of you, your true eternal self, your essence; which is energy that expands from the body out into the unified field; it is so expansive it has a bird’s eye view of everything. It knows all your past and all the potential future possibilities too, and so with subtle feelings inside the body it can guide you on your journey through life… if you are aware and tuned in to your feelings.
The best analogy to understand the perspective of the higher self is to think about a maze. When you enter a maze you will only see what’s in front of you, so it’s impossible for you to know which is the right direction, whereas the higher self sees the aerial view of the entire maze and can easily direct you through.
The higher self communicates via feelings, so if you feel excited to do something that’s a good indicator your higher self is onboard and wants you to have that experience.
Sometimes there is no excitement as such and it’s a subtle lighter feeling, but once you start to tune in, you will feel it more and more.
If you are making a choice in life, you have to listen and be aware of your inner guidance.
Why most people can’t access their inner guidance
Accessing your inner guidance system is not something you have been taught to do, and its definitely not something that is widely spoken about in society, so why would you know?
Being in tune and aware of your feelings moment by moment is not something that's been taught either, and as that is crucial to be able to tune in to your inner guidance, its easy to see why people don't or can't.
The higher self communicates with you with anything that feels like a lighter feeling, through to full on excitement, once you tune into those types of feelings, you can start to understand what your higher self is guiding you towards; what it wants you to experience in life.
The main block to this is your ego (the voice in your head), it often has a different view of things. It can be so loud and persistent it masks any subtle feelings within the body, and can squash excitement with fear and worry thoughts.
The ego’s job, after all, is to identify any threat in order to keep you safe, and it generates thoughts and feelings to do just that.
This often leads to fear based thoughts which may stop you from doing things just in case something bad happens, or things don’t go the way you want them to. The ego will do its best to keep you in your comfort zone where taking a risk on something different isn't possible.
We are also taught at school and by parents that decisions are made by using the mind, by analysing the options and weighing them up, we have never been taught there is another way. The problem with the mind/analysis approach is it can only consider the facts that are known at the time, and then seek for possibilities of things that could happen in the future.
Unfortunately, because the ego has the role of Safety Officer, it is risk averse, and will use every tactic possible to make you choose 'safety'.
Therefore, creating thoughts and feelings about negative future possibilities rather than looking at the potential positive outcomes, which in reality are equally likely; but the human brain doesn’t work that way.
Scenario 1 - Will I have enough money for the life I want?
Imagine you need to find a new home.
Option 1
You have an opportunity to house share with a friend and compared to living alone it is very cheap. It's very accessible to the motorway for work and near to family and friends. Living this life would mean more disposable income, but it’s not where you want to live.
Option 2
The second option is an apartment of your own, in an area you are very excited to live in. Its a pretty town with cafes, bars and countryside walks, and seemingly several options to make new friends; but also close to the city centre to spend time with friends there. It’s still a good location for work and you would have your own space. The downside is cost, it is much more expensive and could potentially limit how many holidays you could have and your level of social activity due to available funds.
In this scenario, thinking about option 2, the ego voice in your head could bring lots of thoughts of ‘ Don’t risk it, what if…., what if …’?
Eventually you could be resigned to the safety of option 1. You know you can live and still have a busy social life and holidays. On the face of it, it seems the most sensible option.
However, as the higher self knows everything, it knows the potential future possibilities of the decisions you make. It might know that by taking option 2 and moving to the apartment you will meet new people, leading to a lucrative business partnership or another amazing opportunity that you can’t even imagine yet.
Going with option 2 requires a leap of faith into the unknown, which isn't within your comfort zone; and from a mind point of view, it’s a huge risk as there is no certainty.
Yet, from the higher self point of view, there is no risk, and the excitement you feel communicates this.
When you listen to your inner guidance, in this scenario, it’s clear the excitement is for the apartment, but the mind is strong and the ego thoughts are literally screaming at you not to do it. ‘Don’t take the risk, what if……?’
Do you listen to mind and take the safe option or do you listen to the higher self and take option 2?
Scenario 2 - Do I have enough time?
You have a difficult report to write which could lead to a promotion you want. You have to get it finished within a few hours, but you feel lethargic and are not very motivated to finish it. You feel like going for a walk and there is a lighter feeling when you think about the walk, but you don't think you have enough time to do both.
Option 1
You stick with the report writing as you have to meet your deadline or risk losing the chance of promotion.
Option 2.
You take some time out of your day to go for a walk, but risk not meeting the deadline
In this scenario the ego would be telling you, 'you should keep going and get it done', 'there isn't time for a walk', 'its not worth risking the deadline or the promotion', etc... so many thoughts for the ego to create, to push you to stick with it.
Whereas, the higher self knows a walk would be beneficial to revitalise and energise you, to help you generate excellent ideas to add to your report; enabling you to come back enthusiastic and get it finished easily.
In this scenario the lighter feeling was to go with option 2 and go for a walk, but so often we ignore it because the fear thoughts, or the ' you should', 'what if' thoughts from the ego are so strong.
Are you brave enough to ignore the Safety Officer in your head and follow the lighter feeling instead?
Cautionary note:
Whatever decision you take, you have to trust it is the right decision and go with it completely, and know that life will unfold exactly how it is meant to; without any expectation of the outcome.
You can’t take a ‘risk’ option and then spend all your time engaging with ego’s fear and worry thoughts, which in scenario 1 would be about lack of money, and in Scenario 2, about lack of time and money, if you didn't meet the deadline and get the promotion.
If you focus on lack, you will attract lack into your life irrespective of what choices you make.
Also know whatever decision you make will be ok. There is no wrong choice as such, your journey will just follow a different path, and it may take a little longer to get to where you are going if you don’t follow the inner guidance every time.
Just remember...the higher self communicates through feelings, if you are feeling excited about something then it’s the right thing to do; anything that gives you a lighter feeling is definitely something you should be doing.
If we all lived our lives moment by moment choosing the lighter feeling, instead of allowing the Safety Officer (ego) to take control, our lives would evolve in a much smoother way.
So, why don’t you try it? 😊
